GBC celebrates a legacy of innovation as it marks 70th anniversary

ACCO Brands is celebrating the 70th anniversary of one of its most iconic brands, GBC.

For 70 years GBC has delivered cutting edge binding and laminating solutions for the office that have stood the test of time. Even today, finishing techniques will ensure a document stands out, grabbing attention and enticing people to read it first.

The evolution of finishing solutions has been driven by the desire to solve problems for business users. In 1947, GBC’s founders recognised that the need for appropriately finished documents spanned across every industry. Believing that great ideas deserve great presentation, they set out to provide professional binding equipment to offices worldwide, creating the General Binding Corporation. Ever since, the GBC name has been synonymous with high quality document finishing.

Over the past 70 years, the GBC brand has continuously evolved, developing new and exciting document finishing technologies. From the introduction of the first electric desktop mechanical binding punch in 1961, to the launch of the Therm-A-BindÒ heat activated binding system in 1973, and the Cyclone high speed laminating system in 2000, its history is rich with innovation.

In 1962, GBC recognised that there was a growing need for accessible laminators as well as document binding machines for business use. This led GBC to develop the first desktop laminator for daily use in the office. From then on, the GBC brand has gone from strength to strength, growing and developing its portfolio. In 2005, GBC merged with ACCO World to form ACCO Brands Corporation, one of the world’s largest suppliers of branded office products and it still continues to innovate to this day. Earlier this year GBC launched its updated Fusion laminators, featuring faster warm up times of up to 33%, ensuring that GBC products remain the ideal choice for busy professionals.
