The 2018 BOSS Business Supplies Charity annual golf and spa day on 4 June welcomed 14 eager teams of golfers and 24 equally keen spa attendees to Wyboston Lakes Golf Club in Bedfordshire.
Breakfast was enjoyed before the golfers headed enthusiastically out to the course – despite the gloomily overcast skies – while the 24 spa attendees preferred to relax indoors, pausing at lunchtime to hear BOSS Charity Trustee Frances Stephen (Springfield Business Supplies) give a talk about how the Charity has brought much-needed light to those in darkened circumstances.
Citing the case of one particular BOSS Charity beneficiary, Frances explained how easy it was for people to find themselves in a position where they desperately need the assistance of the BOSS Charity, which has already helped 100 families this year with approximately 170 grants.
At the end of the day the two groups converged for a carvery supper, followed by an auction and raffle, hosted by the irrepressible Stanley Vaughan, fully equipped with a football whistle to keep order. Overall, the auction and raffle alone raised a much-needed £2,250 for BOSS Charity funds.

Chapman thanked the assembled golfers and spa attendees for supporting the Charity, the sponsors (main sponsors Exaclair (golf) and Antalis (spa champagne reception), as well as Bong, Fellowes, Hamelin Brands, Monolith, Mondi, Office Friendly, SPOT, Prima Software, The Stationery Cupboard, Staedtler, Staples and Stewart Superior) and the Charity Trustees. Chapman concluded by thanking Stanley Vaughan, who has been running the Charity Day since taking over from Mel Moody in 2003, and is now passing the mantle to Phil Wesolowski (Staedtler). Chapman also thanked Mike Gowen (The Stationery Cupboard) for all of his work for this event in recent years.
Overall, over £210,000 has been raised in the last 18 years of the Charity Day, which each year provides the Charity with over 25% of its annual income. This is the fifth and possibly the last year at Wyboston, and with the search now on for a new venue for 2019, the BOSS Charity Day will be looking to spread its light over other parts of the country in future.
