“Water hygiene in the workplace is often viewed as a contained responsibility, but in reality, it forms part of a much wider system. The materials businesses used from cleaning chemicals to plastics and consumables don’t simply disappear after use. They can enter wastewater networks and can influence treatment processes, infrastructure performance and ultimately the quality of water returned to the environment. Even small routine decisions can contribute to larger challenges such as chemical loading, microplastic pollution, and increased pressure on local systems.”
Thinking Beyond Compliance
“There is a growing responsibility for organisations to think beyond compliance and consider their role within this broader cycle.. AAligning with frameworks such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) 6 ‘Clean Water’ and Sanitation and14 ‘Life Below Water’ which highlight the importance of reducing pollution at source and protecting aquatic environments. By taking a more holistic view of water use, considering both what goes into systems and what leaves them, businesses can play a meaningful role in supporting not just workplace safety, but the resilience of the wider environment.
