Konftel becomes a ‘green machine’

Conferencing manufacturer Konftel is continuing to build on its ‘carbon neutral’ status as part of a prolonged pursuit to protect the planet and become a ‘green machine’

As a global leader in creating solutions for effective distance meetings, Konftel plays a daily frontline role in being kinder to the environment – reinforced by its Climate Neutral Certified status. This means customers choosing conference equipment will start at zero in a carbon footprint when substituting business travel with online meetings.

Climate Neutral Certified is a new trusted standard founded by the non-profit organisation Climate Neutral. Konftel achieved certification by measuring its 2019 greenhouse gas emissions footprint – investing in carbon friendly credits to offset that footprint – and implementing plans to reduce emissions this year and beyond.

“It was inspiring to be in the first group of Climate Neutral Certified companies but we are not resting on our laurels,” says UK sales director, Jeff May. “We know that our remote collaboration products help businesses around the world to reduce their travel and emissions, and we’ve recognised it was time for us to contribute to the climate in a broader and deeper way. The Climate Neutral logo means our customers starts with zero in carbon footprint when choosing our products which are designed to substitute business travel which helps to improve the overall global climate.”

He adds: “Every company displaying the Climate Neutral Certified label has taken the same steps to address climate pollution. The process involves first estimating all of the carbon emissions from making and delivering a company’s products or services.”

Konftel calculated its 2019 carbon footprint to be 6,313 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. Companies must then follow a set of standards for buying verified carbon credits to offset their entire footprint. Carbon credits direct investment into reducing and capturing carbon dioxide, and can support a range of projects such as forest conservation, renewable energy, and direct destruction of climate-changing gases.

“We want to be part of the Green Recovery, rebooting the economy for a sustainable and climate neutral future long after the Covid crisis is over,” Jeff emphasised.

All Climate Neutral Certified companies commit to a reduction action plan to cut future emissions. Konftel pledged to reduce the use of plastic bags for cables by 10% this year and bring down emissions from business air travel by 15%.

“Climate Neutral Certified companies show the world that immediate action on climate change is possible and essential,” says Austin Whitman, CEO of Climate Neutral. “We certified our first group of companies this April and believe this is the beginning of a powerful movement among consumers and companies. Even at this difficult time, our newly certified brands are leading the way by recognising that climate change must be solved. They believe that all companies should take immediate voluntary action to zero out their entire carbon footprint, and are engaging their consumers around this important issue like never before.”

Jeff concluded: “There are three reasons why we are now placing an even greater emphasis on sustainability: our customers and partners expect it, the world needs it and we believe in its importance.

“Sustainability is built into Konftel’s business concept and DNA. Our products for audio and video conferencing help people around the world to meet remotely. This in turn reduces the need for business travel, which accounts for a large volume of emissions and drains the planet’s resources. At the same time, as a global manufacturer of technical products we need to take social and environmental responsibility. This has been a core value from day one.”
