Announcing a series of change programmes and investments since he took over as MD in May this year, Exertis Supplies today announces that the first phase of its investment and growth programme is well underway – led by new MD Matt Balcombe
Exertis Supplies has announced a series of investment and growth plans, including Ireland and warehouse expansions and events, overseen by a new Managing Director.
Matt Balcombe took on the role of MD of Exertis Supplies last quarter, and the business moved into its new 130K square foot facility in early 2024. Matt and his team have been focusing on delivering operational and system improvements to further strengthen its offerings to their customer base.
Matt joins Exertis Supplies from sister company Exertis UK| Business & Consumer, where he spent the last 5 years leading business transformation activities. Exertis’s mission statement is to be each partner’s best partner; and Tim Griffin, Exertis IT CEO, notes: “To be our partners’ best partner means we deliver on our promises to provide better solutions and services for our customers, and this is the grounding for all longer-term investments in our business.”
The focus in Matt’s first few months in his role has been 3-fold:
- Go-to-Market and Sales Effectiveness – beginning with a reorganisation of its Sales and Commercial functions, evolving its marketing engine to respond to ever-changing market needs. The revised sales structure is focused around its customers meaning that every customer now has an account manager to directly support them. Exertis Supplies is now experiencing rapid growth in customers, both existing and new.
- Operational Excellence – Exertis Supplies is now maximising the capabilities of the wider Exertis IT estate by holding stock in the most appropriate location to leverage operational capabilities, this includes utilising the new best-in-class 33.000 location automated pick tower in Burnley Bridge, Lancashire, resulting in even greater efficiency for customers’ orders.
- International Expansion – Exertis Supplies announced in May it had opened a new facility in Ireland with the appointment of a new sales team locally, providing customers with a much-needed alternative and competitive supply option, which is already yielding very positive customer uptake. In early 2026, Exertis Supplies is also hosting a partner growth event in Dublin – more information on this will follow in the coming weeks.
Exertis Supplies continues to put customers first. “Our role in the market is to help our partners solve problems, working together in partnership to grow our mutual business,” said Matt Balcombe. “It’s been fantastic to get the chance, in my new role, to meet so many of our customers and suppliers and with every one of them there are exciting opportunities to invest together for growth.”
Exertis Supplies has had the pleasure to host several customers at its new site in Elland – and is pleased to announce it will be hosting its first ‘12 Days of Christmas’ event. Matt added: “This is an ideal opportunity for customers to meet the team, tour our new facilities and learn more about what Exertis Supplies can do to help unlock growth.”
Relating to the progress of its imminent sale to global private equity organisation Aurelius, Matt acknowledged: “During our transition from DCC we’re facing some challenges with vendor credit insurance for a small number of our partners. It’s been pleasing to see we have so many creative solutions and such strength in relationships that we’re finding alternative solutions to trade through with the vast majority of them until credit is restored. Our partners’ ongoing support of our working relationship is a testament to our collaboration and long-term relationships.”
