SC Johnson hand sanitisers meet disinfection efficacy test standard

New testing conducted by an independent laboratory in the United States on SC Johnson Professional’s alcohol-based hand sanitisers, InstantFOAM Complete and InstantGEL Complete, has concluded that these products all meet the EN14476:2015 guideline for effective deactivation of the virus Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-related Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) strain: USA-WA1/2020

SC Johnson Professional is pleased to reassure users that the sanitiser products noted above have now been tested and shown to effectively deactivate the virus, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-related Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in accordance with the EN14476:2015 suspension test guideline, after 30 seconds contact time. The products already meet the criteria of having ‘fully virucidal’ properties i.e. effective against all enveloped and non-enveloped viruses in accordance with EN14476:2015 standard and are now among the first in the world to be specifically tested against the SARS-CoV-2 virus strain to recognised standards.

EN14476:2015 is the European Standard quantitative suspension test method used to evaluate the virucidal properties of chemical disinfectants intended for use in the medical sector. SC Johnson Professional’s fully virucidal sanitisers were re-tested specifically against SARS-CoV-2 due to its status as a ‘novel’ or new virus. In this test standard, the disinfectant must achieve greater than four log reductions (a 99.99% reduction) in viral titre following a contact time no longer than 120 seconds. In this testing, the SC Johnson Professional sanitiser products noted above all met these requirements when tested for 30 seconds contact time – well within the contact time limit of the standard.

SC Johnson Professional hand sanitiser products are marketed as PT1 biocidal products used for human hygiene purposes only and whilst they are one of many effective tools in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, their use does not prevent or treat COVID-19 disease or provide any medicinal effects or benefits to the user.

SC Johnson Professional recommends that users of its alcohol-based hand sanitisers, InstantFOAM Complete and InstantGel Complete, should apply enough product to keep the hands wet for 30 seconds and ensure that the whole of the hands are covered with sanitiser including between the fingers and thumbs, around the fingernails and on the backs of the hands.
