UTAX recycles with the rainforest

UTAX (UK) Ltd continues to support local charitable initiatives with its latest printer donation to The Living Rainforest

As part of UTAX’s ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy, employees are actively encouraged to look for potential opportunities to support charitable causes. As a result of this, a member of staff identified an opportunity to assist The Living Rainforest, a sustainability education charity based in Hampstead Norreys in Berkshire and established in 1993, with a print device. UTAX has a small stock of not-new devices, which, whilst perfectly usable, are not suitable for sale and would have otherwise be destined for disposal under the WEEE Directive.
Alison Robinson, the front of house manager at The Living Rainforest, commented: “It was an extremely kind gesture of UTAX to offer us a printer, free of charge and has not only made a huge difference to my working day, but also means that we are able to reinforce our environmental ideals around sustainability through using a recycled device.”
Sarah Mackay, head of operations at UTAX (UK), also commented: “As a company we feel it is important to be able to support and assist local charitable organisations, and The Living Rainforest supports such a worthwhile cause, that affects us all. We are well aware of the impact our business can have on the environment, and to be able to not only reuse one of our machines, rather than disposing of it, but to such a fantastic cause, really was the best of both worlds for us.”
The donation complements the UTAX community print project, set up to provide free printing services on an ‘as agreed’ basis to pre-approved community events and charitable activities across the UK. It also ensures that charities and not for profit organisations, like The Living Rainforest, whose volunteers and staff may not have access to capital budget for the purchase of devices or printing facilities in any form, can now apply to have their general promotional and event publicity materials printed.
Community group representatives interested in benefiting from the UTAX community project can complete the following application form; www.utax.co.uk/community, giving their community group or organisation’s details, the reason for the print job and details of what they require.
