Q2 2022 and Q3 2022 new industry trend research from BOSS is now available to BOSS members
The BOSS SoS (State of Office Supplies) survey, designed with input from BOSS members, covers a range of crucial topics in an online questionnaire that was live from 13 September to 5 October 2022.
The BOSS SoS research measures the current level of confidence in the office supplies industry, monitors and highlights trends and changes in the industry – including across category, channel, and client business type. The research also includes insights on business concerns, energy costs, pay reviews, financing and credit conditions, and international trade.
49 member companies, covering 5,321 employees and with a combined turnover of £1.3bn, participated in the research. Survey respondents were comprised mostly of manufacturers and dealers/resellers.
Key findings from the report indicate that industry confidence was low in Q2 2022, but improved strongly in Q3. Most respondents remain confident in the performance of their own companies (47% describe their company as expanding; 49% as stabilising).
Energy costs are now the top business concern across the industry, though for dealers/resellers the top concern is poor service levels for goods and for manufacturers it is the cost of raw materials.
Out of the respondents, 31% have incurred energy cost increases in the zero per cent to nine per cent category but 36% have incurred increases greater than 100% (23% greater than 300%).
