As reported in The Independent, International Paper has announced plans to close five of its UK facilities, placing around 300 jobs in jeopardy as part of a sweeping review of its British operations
The packaging giant, which recently acquired rival DS Smith, cited tough market conditions and the need to boost efficiency as key reasons behind the move. The company said the proposed closures aim to enhance responsiveness to changing customer needs in a challenging trading environment.
While the exact locations of the five sites have not yet been disclosed, the company also plans to relocate one facility, scale back operations at another from seven to five days a week, and implement minor staffing cuts at two additional sites.
The restructuring is expected to affect approximately 300 positions by the end of the year. International Paper confirmed that consultations with employees and trade unions are currently underway.
