Exertis, a global leader in technology distribution, is supporting LGBT+ History Month by hosting an exclusive webinar for its employees, featuring guest speaker Alexis Gregory. The theme of this years’ LGBT+ History Month is ‘politics in art’
Alexis Gregory is a playwright, performer, director and producer, whose work explores LGBT+ themes. Alexis Gregory’s critically acclaimed show, Riot Act, returns in February to celebrate LGBT+ History Month.
Direct from the West End and touring the UK, this online ‘digital reimagining’ has been created using interviews with a surviving witness of the Stonewall Riots – a significant event in the history of New York’s gay community – as well as a radical drag artist and an AIDS activist. The new production of the critically acclaimed show is directed by Rikki Beadle-Blair MBE and was filmed at the Hackney Empire. It will be available to watch throughout February.
The webinar will cover topics including the histories of marginalised communities, the story of the stonewall riots, Gregory’s work as a writer/performer, and the ways in which non-LGBT+ people can provide allyship and support to LGBT+ colleagues.
Alexis Gregory, Creator and Performer, comments, “It has been an honour to perform these three extraordinary, hidden, queer stories, all over the UK since Riot Act’s premiere in 2018. Since 2018, there has also been talk of filming Riot Act, and so, finally, to mark LGBT+ History Month 2022, here is that special filmed version of the show. With the pandemic redefining what online theatre can be, this digital reimagining of the show for the screen sits somewhere between theatre and film.”
Jo Lawrence, HR director, Exertis UK, says, “We’re really looking forward to welcoming Alexis as part of LGBT+ History Month. As part of our ongoing commitment to driving diversity and inclusion across the business, it’s crucial that every voice is heard and celebrated.”
