Employee experience is key for success – what can businesses do to prioritise their employee experience in 2023?

Gartner survey of HR leaders found that 47% cite employee experience as a top priority for them in 2023. This is important for businesses, as a positive employee experience can reap the following rewards:

  • attracting and retaining talent;
  • increased employee morale;
  • a motivated and engaged workforce;
  • a collaborative work environment;
  • professional growth in your workforce;
  • a good company reputation.

To build a positive employee experience, businesses should be doing the following:

  • Leading and managing effectively: modern leaders need to be authentic, empathetic and adaptive, which reflects a new call for ‘human’ leadership – this puts people first by focusing on the personal relationships between leaders and employees.
  • Focusing on the culture of their organisation: workplaces need to be somewhere employees want to work. By focusing on the culture of the business, leaders can create workplaces that support and uplift employees.
  • Offering training opportunities: leaders can provide their employees with training that can enhance their career development and boost opportunities for progression. This will make employees feel they are being invested in, helping to maximise staff retention by giving them the chance to grow in the company. 
  • Tailoring support to their staff: each employee is unique so businesses should build their HR offerings around them. This is particularly important for teams in the UK who might be struggling with the ongoing pressures of the cost of living crisis – resources, practical advice and financial guidance could be great ways to offer relevant HR assistance. 
  • Prioritising staff well-being: protecting the health and well-being of employees can include anything from building a safe and supportive work environment to implementing wellness programmes; these can both actions reduce stress and boost employee resilience. 
  • Implementing hybrid working: setting policies that support employees to work from home illustrates that businesses are flexible to the needs of their employers. Go the extra mile by ensuring they have the correct resources that can support them to work from a home office – for example, with collaborative tools or accessories, such as headsets and monitors.
