Tomorrow, MD of Brother UK, Phil Jones, and world record holder, James Golding, set out from Pembrey Park in Wales to ride every stage of the Tour of Britain a day ahead of the race. Their aim is to raise £50,000 for the Dave Rayner Fund, which provides financial support for upcoming bike racers to live abroad and follow their dream of becoming professionals.
Around five per cent of Dave Rayner funded riders go on to reach the World Tour racing for teams like Sky – however, the journey there is tough requiring many years of discipline, training and building skills and experience. Riders previously funded include Hannah Barnes, Adam Yates, Ian Stannard and Nikki Brammeier. Without this vital funding early in their careers, their chances of success narrows significantly.
